Special Events

Welcome to our Events Page. The Museum features a Civil War themed exhibit each February, a Summer exhibit in May, and a Holiday exhibit in November, with special events that coordiante with each exhibit. Special events are planned throughout the year (especially with Pip the Mouse) so please check back often.

 


Sat., April 10; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Pip the Mouse and the Liberty Bell Shrine Museum at the "History Expo," Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut Street, Allentown, PA 18102.

The Museum will have a booth and Pip the Mouse will be visiting. You will also have an opportunity to visit the booths of many other local historical societies and groups. There will be free admission to the Heritage Museum during the Expo!

Sun., April 11; 1:30 p.m. -Sundays @ the Museum
"The Rockwell/Csatari Boy Scout Legacy" and the "Gathering of Eagles"

Open to art lovers and Scouts alike, there will be a presentation and book signing with Jeff Csatari, son of Joseph Csatari, Official Artist of the B.S.A., with a special reception for all in honor of "Eagle Scouts." Cost: Donation, plus cost of book, if desired. Please call 610.435.4232 for reservations.


Sun. April 18; 3:00 p.m. - Allentown Band Benefit Concert in Historic Zion’s Reformed Church Sanctuary and the Liberty Bell Shrine Museum (sponsored by friend of the Museum, Karen ElChaar)

Directed by Ronald Demkee, the concert program will be "Music from the War Periods of American History" with a tribute to the First Defenders of the Civil War and Veterans of All Wars and featuring the ringing of the 1769 Allentown Liberty Bell and Pip the Mouse conducting the Allentown Band. Members Reception to follow in the Museum. Tickets: $10.00 donation, $8.00 donation for members of the Museum. Please call for tickets or information - 610.435.4232.

Pine Wood Derby Fun Day with "Pip the Mouse" and Boy Scouts 100th Anniversary Exhibit Closing Reception

Join us for a fun day of racing Cub Scout Pine Wood Derby cars. There will be races for adults and for children. Also view the exhibit on its last day and enjoy some refreshments along the way. Cost: Donation; Please call 610.435.4232 for reservations.

Sat., May 22; 10:00 a.m. Diary of an American Soldier with Pip the Mouse

Join Pip for this Memorial Day event in which we will learn about a soldier in the American Revolution through diary excerpts of his life. We will remember veterans who served our country in the many American wars, learn patriotic songs, enjoy some refreshments and even make our own diary to start recording our own memories. Pip’s Birthday Tribute to the American Flag with Betsy Ross

Join Pip for this celebration of the American Flag with a birthday concert by Colonial musicians and a local rock band, OZMIUM*76. You will have an opportunity to jam with the musicians for patriotic and popular children’s tunes, meet "Betsy Ross" as she teaches about the American Flag, design your own flag and enjoy refreshments as we celebrate the American Flag’s 233rd Birthday. Recordante Colonial Concert

Under the direction of friend of the Museum, Karen ElChaar, this concert will feature music from the colonial period played by a recorder choir. Summer Reading Program Kick-Off, Allentown Public Library; 1210 Hamilton St.,

"Make a Splash at the Library" as Pip celebrates the beginning of summer and the summer reading program at the library. OZMIUM*76 will perform rockin’ children’s songs and there will be games and activities that will make a splash for the summer.

Annual Flag Day Program and Allentown Band Concert, West Park, Allentown

celebrate Flag Day with the Allentown Flag Day Association, the great Allentown Band, Pip the Mouse and essays readings from students in the Allentown School District. Cost: FREE.

Tues., June 29; 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Library Idol Contest with Pip the Mouse, Allentown Public Library, 1210 Hamilton St.

Be a part of this year’s Allentown singing contest in which Pip the Mouse will be a celebrity judge. For more information and contest registration, please contact the Library at 610.820.2400.

Independence Day Celebration

Celebrate the 234th Anniversary of American Independence with the following activities. At 10:00 a.m., "Independence Day Service and Reading of the Declaration of Independence" in historic Zion’s Reformed Church sanctuary; From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., "America’s Birthday Celebration" in the Museum with family activities, a luncheon, and America’s birthday cake; Beginning at 1:30 p.m.,"Let Freedom Ring Natl. Bell Ringing Ceremony with Pip the Mouse" featuring patriotic music by the Flutations and the ringing of the Liberty Bell at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

James Allen meets John Adams - an Historic Dialogue

Join us for an evening of historical importance as local actor George Miller and historian Frank Whelan present a dialogue between Founding Father, John Adams, and Allentown son James Allen, who leaned more toward sympathizing with the British, as it might have occurred at Trout Hall back in 1777. A light reception celebrating 234 Years of American Independence will follow. Tickets: for more information, please call 610.435.4232.

Independence Day Celebration at the Library, Allentown Public Library; 1210 Hamilton St.

Join Pip and the library staff for a fun filled storytime ending with a children’s parade, led by Pip carrying the American Flag.

Hunt for History with Pip the Mouse Summer Camp (recommended for ages 7 -12)

Join Pip for two fun and educational days at the Museum while we explore the rich history that is present in downtown Allentown. Learn about the Liberty Bell and colonial and Revolutionary War days in Allentown, the Civil War and the modern era of Allentown. Lunch will be provided and parents and grandparents are welcome to attend. Cost: TBD; Please call 610.435.4232 for reservations or more information.

Sundays @ the Museum - Allentown’s Amusement Parks Dorney Park and Central Park in their Heydays

Join local historians and amusement park enthusiasts for this talk on a summer past time, visiting Allentown’s two rival amusement parks, Dorney Park to the west and Central Park on the east side. Cost: Donation; Please call 610.435.4232 for reservations.
